Rather than buying lettering stickers or handwriting their scrap book page headings a lot of scrapers are now using a computer to do this instead.

We have lots of great sayings and quotes that you can use, so why not utilise your computer and print out your own page titles too?

And you could... it's highly likely that you will have Microsoft's Word program already installed on your computer.

This is a very versatile program that will give you endless creative options when combined with all the different colors, patterns and textures of papers available - allowing you to customize your titles to suit your layouts.

So if you've never tried (or even if you have) printing out your own scrapbooking titles, this tutorial will show you a particularly useful trick that you can try-out the next time you want to make a title for a new layout.

Scrapbook letters - a tutorial...

Usually when printing out text all the letters are block filled with black ink (or whatever color you've selected), for example:

Here's what to do if you don't want block letters but would rather have an outline of the text, so when they are printed the pattern or color of your chosen paper/vellum/cardstock shows through...

  • Open your Word program
  • Select the font, color(s) and size then write your text
  • Highlight the text you want to outline
  • Click on the word 'Format' on the toolbar at the top of the page
  • From the drop-down menu click 'Font'
    •
  • A new window will pop-up, go half way down to the check-boxes and tick the 'Outline' option - you can see the effect on your text in the Preview window underneath

  • If you like it click 'OK', if not click 'Cancel' and try another font
    •

    Now all that's left to do is print, cut-out and add the page toppers to your layout. :o)

    If you've always brought lettering stickers for your headings and never thought about doing your own - give it a go... it's easier than you think and you could amaze yourself with the results!
