A simple photo weaving tutorial
Photo weaving gives your
photographs an unusual, dramatic 3d effect and here's a simple how-to-do-it guide.
Firstly you will need two copies of the photo that you want to use. Draw evenly spaced
vertical lines down the back of photo one and then draw evenly spaced horizontal lines
across the back of photo two. It really doesn't matter what size you make these strips
(although 1/2" works quite well) as long as they are all the same size.
Cut out the strips and then starting from the centre weave them together - using one
from photo one, then one from photo two and so on. When you have used up all the strips
apply your glue and stick onto your mat.
There you have it! A creative and artistic technique that's easy to do - go on give it
a try!
Scrap book ideas - reader's submission ...
Well done Valerie from Delaware City, this is Valerie's great tidbit... "To save
money on embellishments: What I do is keep my eye out for pretty pictures or prints
everywhere. In my "scrap pile" I have corners of Virginia Slims coupons that I
have cut off with shaped scissors that made a cute photo corner. I also utilize tickets.
When we went to the Philadelphia Zoo and Ripley's Museum in Niagara Falls, I saved the
tickets and used them in my pages.
I have also used programs from shows, parts of brochures, Game pieces (ie. Monopoly
money and chance cards, etc.), attractive cd's, stickers from my grandson's candy
purchases, you can use the label's from Champagne or other alcohol bottles(soak in warm
soapy water for 15 monutes,if you use it right away you do not need glue), the list goes
on and on. Just keep you eye out for attractive items everywhere."
Go on... follow Valerie's example and submit your own scrapin' hints to

Metal embellishments - are they safe?
Yes, they are. You can use all kinds of metal items such as wire, coins, medals, keys
and all sorts of jewelry, as embellishments to your layouts. However, any metal objects
that have been treated with iron oxide are "not" archival safe.
When using metal objects on your layouts be careful where you place them - think about
the page opposite and make sure the metal wont scrape or catch any
photos/memorabilia as it could damage them.
It is also a good idea to put page protectors over your layouts for that extra bit of
protection.
Album storage
This scrap book ideas post gives you a few pointers for storing your scrapbooking
albums correctly.
The best way to store your scrapbook albums is standing up. By keeping them upright you
will minimise indentations/marks on your pages from any 'chunky' 3d embellishments that
you used on other pages.
If your album is out on display, try and keep it out of direct sunlight, as this will
cause your photographs to fade.
Make a 'themed' background paper
Here's another neat scrapbooking idea that you can try out...
There are some stunning gift wrap papers around today and they make fantastic
backgrounds or mats for themed layouts - particularly for baby, birthday, engagement or
wedding pages etc.
It's really easy to make your own themed background paper too - all you have to do is
color copy (or scan and print) your chosen gift wrap onto some acid-free paper and viola!
