Making your own background paper
Here's some quick and simple free scrapbook ideas that you can use to make background
papers (of course, use acid free paper when copying or printing out!).
Newspaper
This makes a great background and is especially good in a baby layout, using an edition
from the day that the baby was born. Don't use the newspaper itself because it is too
acidic and unsafe for inclusion in scrapbooks, make a photocopy instead.
Fabric Paper
Using your scanner, scan a piece of fabric and then print it out onto some paper of your
choice- don't worry if you don't own your own scanner, use a color copier instead.
Stampin'
This is a technique used a lot by stampers when making cards to make patterned paper and
there's no reason why scrappers can't do the same. Just pick out your favorite stamp(s),
choose some co-ordinating or contrasting colored inks and start stampin'. Great fun!

Make use of a bad photo
Most advice to scrapers is to throw away any bad photos that you have. Good advice but
before you throw them away, make use of those photos!
Usually there is only a small area that lets the photo down, like a stranger walking
into the shot just as you press the shutter, the rest of the picture is fine.
Take your punches and use the photo to punch out some flowers, butterfilies, stars,
whatever shapes you want and use them on your layouts. These 'punchies' make great
colorful embellishments and they're cheap too!
